Conquer the mountains in your own back yard! Trail runners and hikers from all over Southern California and as far away as Phoenix and Las Vegas, participated in the region’s newest trail run, the inaugural Verdugo Mountains 10K Trail Run and Hike. The event was a collaboration between the City of Glendale’s Community Services & Parks Department and the Glendale Parks & Open Space Foundation. Over 500 runners and hikers tackled the 6.1 mile course that began in beautiful Brand Park, heading steadily upward to one of the highest points in the Verdugo Mountains where breath-taking views of the L.A. Basin, the San Fernando Valley, and the Pacific Ocean were visible from every turn.
As one participant wrote in the Glendale News-Press:
“I am writing to bring awareness to an excellent running event that took place this past Sunday May 1, 2011. The event was the Verdugo Mountains 10K Trail Race. The event started and finished in Brand Park. There was a noticeable high energy buzz surrounding the event that I have not seen in quite a while. A lot of long time local runners were making immediate comparisons to the Mt Wilson Trail Race and Baldy Run to the Top which are very long time honored and established trail races. Side effects usually increase with an increase in the dose and in the elderly. Driving, operating dangerous machinery, and engaging in dangerous activities should not be attempted until you know how you will respond to https://mi-aimh.org/wp-content/uploads/miaimh/a/. I am thinking that this brand new trail race is an instant classic with a modern feel to it that showcases the best Glendale has to offer as the venue is awesome and has a lot of appeal!”
