President’s Letter
Dear Neighbor,
We invite you to become part of the Glendale Parks & Open Space Foundation.
Our first fundraising event, “Art from the Ashes,” was held in 2010 to benefit Deukmejian Wilderness Park which was severely burned in the 2009 Station, Fire. Proceeds from the event have already been donated to fund Trails and Open Space programs in the park, the installation of new trail signs to replace those damaged in the fire, and to plant Big Cone Spruce trees in Dunsmore Canyon. Future projects will help to support the establishment of a native plant nursery and a volunteer Trail Safety Patrol.
In May, 2011 we collaborated with the City of Glendale Community Services and Parks Department on the inaugural Verdugo Mountains 10K Trail Run and Hike. The event was a huge success with over 500 runners and hikers participating and will be held again on May 6, 2012. Proceeds from this event have gone to support the Glendale Youth Alliance, the Department’s “Club Maple” program for developmentally disabled adults, and the Department’s Senior Services Program.
However, we can’t support our parks and recreation programs without your help. We encourage you to make a donation to the Foundation. As a supporter, you will receive our upcoming email newsletter, information about programs and activities, and invitations to participate in events in some of Glendale’s most beautiful parks and scenic open spaces. We are a nonprofit organization and your membership is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Thank you for your consideration. We look forward to having you with us as we work together to make a positive impact on our community. Remember, “parks make life better”.
Sincerely,
